"Hi my name is Richard Revis I'm co-owner of Black Jungle Terrarium Supply and today I'm here to on behalf of expertvillage.com discussing the proper culturing of fruit flies. At this point we are going to continue on discussing the different types of materials that are needed in order to insure a successful culturing. In addition to the media and the culture containers you would also need a supply of clean water. Chlorinated water is okay as long as there is no heavy minerals or excessive minerals present in it. Most people simply chose to use tap water and that is simply works out fine. It is always best to have individual cups that be used for each of the media in the water to avoid to reusing measuring cups for both materials. In addition a large mouth funnel also helps to control the flow of flies into the new culture vessels as they are being set up. You would also need active yeast in order to help start the break down of the sugars in the media in order to make it more digestible for the flies. And one of the last components is a shredded aspen material often called a cellar this allows this provides much more surface area for the fruit flies to actually crawl on and helps to avoid them drowning in the culture media itself. All of the things should be assemble in advance of setting up the cultures in order to make the process go smoothly as possible."
