" Hi my name is Richard Revis I'm co-owner of Black Jungle Terrarium Supply and today we are discussing the proper culturing methods of fruit flies. At this point we are ready to discuss the culturing containers. Typically any type of containers can be use to culture fruit flies as long as it can contain the flies as well provide adequate ventilation. Some people will choose to use mason jars, some will even use fruit juice jars plugged with foam. But the main draw back to those types of culture containers is that they are very hard to get sterile in between use. sterility is very important because anytime of molds and bacteria or fungus that are present in the container would flourish under the sugar rich properties of the media itself. Using a disposable container although at first in may seem more expensive it actually does cost more less in the long run and saves a lot of time and insures the productivity of a culture. Containers such as this are made out of a recyclable plastic and come complete with vented lids that provides the right amount of air circulation that is important for the longevity of the culture. Once the culture has reach its performance and it is no longer use you can just then discard the container recycle the plastic part and start brand new with the new one. Doing it this way saves a lot of time and effort and insures that every culture that you start will have its best chance to success."
