"Hi my name is Richard Revis I'm co-owner of Black Jungle Terrarium Supply and today I'm here to on behalf of expertvillage.com we are discussing the proper culturing methods of fruit flies. At this point we are ready to discuss the choice of media. The type of media that you use is actually very important. It would make the difference between successful cultures and in cultures that would simply not produce or be riddle with problems of mold and fungi. There are different types of media that you can use. There are countless receipts online for home made formulas. However, the best type are topically the ones that are available in a instant form. The main reason for this is these instant formulas already have all the mold inhibitors, extra sugars, and extra protein added that would make sure that your culture produce well. If you do chose to use a home made formula topically additional cultures are required in order to make up for short falls in production in can actually cause add to the overall cost to your culturing. As long as you use a high quality formula topically your cultures can come down to just a couple of dollars a piece which can save a lot of money in the long run. Using a poor quality culture media can wind up even doubling and tripling the cost just because you have to set up more cultures in order to produce the same numbers of flies and also a count for loses due to mold and fungus. Which ever type of media that you chose to use it is also very important to keep the media in a seal container. This would insure both a the safety and the strudel of the media as well as preventing mites and mildew as well as prevent mites and moisture in coming in a contaminating and oxidizing the formula."
