"Hi my name is Richard Revis I'm co-owner of Black Jungle Terrarium Supply and today I'm here to on behalf of expertvillage.com discussing the culturing of fruit fling media. In this segment I would like to discuss the different kinds of fruit flies that are topically cultured. There are two main species in cultivation the first of which is the smaller species Drosophila melanogaster this is the common fruit fly that is found in many orchards and even homes during the summer time and is one of the most popular species to be cultured. The man attributes of it is it is small size and its rapid breeding potential. There are several different forms available of this species all of which have different flight restriction breed into them. Some of the can be completely wingless where other ones do have wings but just restriction and there ability to fly. The second species that we would be discussing today is a larger species which is Drosophila hydei it is a larger fly and does actually possessed full wings. However, it lacks the adductor muscle which it allows it to fly. This species is a little bit slower in production although the larger size topically makes up for any short coming in the production schedule. Both of them are topically culture in the same manner. The main difference being the time required for each of the cultures to produce. Today we will be discussing how to go about culturing both of these and discussing some of the problems that you may run into as well."
