" Hi! My name is Richard Reavis. I am co-owner of Black Jungle Terrarium Supply and I am here today on behalf of expertvillage.com to discuss the feeding and supplementation of poison dart frogs. There are several problems that can occur from the improper feeding and or supplementation of the dart frogs one of which is nutritional deficiencies. Although many people are concerned about over supplementing their animals by far, the more common problem is actually a deficiency developed from insufficient quantities of a supplement item. One of the most common supplements that is lacking is actually the calcium. I have seen several people attribute the symptoms of this to a variety of causes although some of the most common signs are typically inability to capture food and then that continues on into seizures and eventually the death of the animal. This is all the results of the fact that calcium is a very important part of the neurological function of an animal. If the calcium level is not high enough in the blood, the nervous systems and therefore the muscles simply just cannot function properly. The end result is repetitive attempts to eat without success and eventually if it is still left untreated, seizures occurring then eventually wind up in the death of the animal. There is the chance of over supplementation with certain things such as vitamin A. However, this typically is only a problem if you are seriously packing your insect items with the dust and never really alternating between different food supplements. By providing a variety of feeder insects, vitamin supplements and proper calcium supplementation, you can avoid most all supplementary issues. "
