"Hi! My name is Richard Reavis. I am co-owner of Black Jungle Terrarium Supply and on behalf of expertvillage.com, I am here today to discuss the feeding and supplementation of poison dart frogs. Now that we have covered supplementation, the next point that is very important to consider is the size of the insect required for feeding your dart frogs. Obviously a larger species such as the dendrobates tanktorious shown here can take larger food items than many smaller species. Yet surprisingly even a large animal such as this may still prefer somewhat smaller food items than some other genera. For instance, phyllobates is another genus that will actually take relatively large insect prey including crickets that are even as much as 2 to 3 weeks old. Failure to provide the appropriate size feeder insect can actually cause a great deal of stress on the animal and potentially even prevent them from eating it in the future if and when they grow large enough to take it. It is always best to start out smaller and offer larger food items than the reverse."
