"Hi! My name is Richard Reavis. I am co-owner of Black Jungle Terrarium Supply and today on behalf of expertvillage.com, we are discussing the proper feeding and supplementation of poison dart frogs. Now that we have discussed several forms of feeder insects, I would like to move on and start discussing the supplementation required. One of the most important parts of any amphibians diet is calcium. Calcium is very important for both bone growth as well as proper neurological function. Here at Black Jungle we use a variety of calcium and mineral supplements including the Rep-Cal and also the T-Rex 2.0. Whichever calcium supplement you use, it is important to choose an item that has much more calcium in it than phosphorous. You are looking at a ratio of at least 2 to 1, preferably higher. The important reasoning behind this is that in order for an animal to utilize the calcium it does need to be present in twice the amount of phosphorous. Since most feeder insects have higher levels of phosphorous in them, it is important to supplement them with something that has higher levels of calcium. Using either of these products or another type that does meet that type of criteria, would be a perfect addition to supplementing the diet. Each of these would be dusted onto the feeder insect before feeding."
