"Hi! My name is Richard Reavis. I am co-owner of Black Jungle Terrarium Supply and today I am here on behalf of expertvillage.com discussing feeding and supplementing poison dart frogs. Another food item that is an excellent supplement to fruit flies is pinhead crickets. Unfortunately, they are not that commonly available; however, some keepers will hatch their own. They are usually available in small sizes which can be suitable for adult poison dart frogs. However, froglets in smaller species will actually require newly hatched or at the most, week old crickets. They have several good points that make them even a better choice than fruit flies for feeding: (1) they tend to stay on the ground rather than trying to crawl out of the terrarium as fruit flies do. Additionally they do have a bit more body mass to them providing more of a meaty meal without being much larger than a fruit fly. In fact, day old crickets can actually even be smaller than many types of fruit flies and are ideal as a first food for even thumbnail species."
