"Hi! My name is Richard Rivas, co-owner of Black Jungle Terrarium Supply and I’m here today on behalf of expertvillage.com to discuss how the best way is to bring your poison dart frogs from the egg stage all the way up through froglet. At this point, our tadpoles have been developing for about 3 months or so. Their front limbs are starting to emerge and they are ready to go into the metamorphosing tanks. It is important to remove them at this point because once they start changing over from gills to lungs; they will not be able to breathe under water and can actually drown. The process consists of netting them out and then moving them into a new enclosure where there is easy access up out of the water. As you can see here, several frogletts have already finished absorbing their tail and will be moved out to froglet bins shortly. At this stage, it is not necessary nor advised to feed the tadpoles as they are absorbing their tail during the process of metamorphosis. In addition to that, their mouth is changing from a rasping tadpole mouth to an insect eating frog mouth and they can’t eat even if they wanted to. Once they have been in here for approximately 1 to 1 ½ weeks, they are ready to be moved on into the froglet bins."
