"Hi my name is Sarah and this is Halibut, and I am one of the exotic technicians here at Extra Care Animal Hospital, and on behalf of Expert Village.com, I am going to provide you with some helpful information on owning a rabbit. One of the most important things you can do for your rabbit is to keep him or her on a high quality diet. The bulk of their diet should be a good, high quality timothy hay. In addition to that, they should receive a high quality timothy-based pellet once they are an adult rabbit. Alfalfa-based pellets are appropriate for younger rabbits, but for an adult rabbit you should have a timothy-based pellet. There are currently only timothy-based pellets on the market right now, so when you go to your pet store to ask for rabbit pellet, make sure you ask for a good timothy-based pellet. As far as treats go, you can give them a small piece of fruit every day, such as one slice of banana, one small grape or a small piece of apple. You want to keep fruit and treats to a minimum, however, because fruit and treats tend to have a lot of sugar, and they can cause dietary upsets in rabbits.
