Series Summary

Man has had a unique relationship with a certain long-eared animal on this planet. The rabbit, order Lagomorpha, has often been considered to be lucky, perhaps because of its place in African folklore and magic; and some carry a rabbit’s foot around as a talisman. Christians still celebrate Easter, the occasion of Christ’s resurrection, with a hunt for eggs left by a bunny rabbit. Nevertheless, we’ve raised rabbits as food and cooked them into gourmet dishes. We’ve chased them out of our crops and gardens as pests to be exterminated. So, perhaps as a recent development from this complex history, we have begun to bring rabbits into our homes, to domesticate and care for them, and to call them friends.

The rabbit can be a great pet to keep if you know a few things about what it needs to stay healthy. Rabbits are known to live beyond ten years old in a well-maintained indoor environment. They can be energetic animals if allowed to roam outside their cage to play and interact with humans and other animals. If you do decide to cage them, it’s very important to have proper ventilation; rabbit urine creates an ammonia buildup that is harmful to your pet rabbit. A well balanced diet helps regulate the rabbit’s weight and maintain its overall well-being.

In this free instructional video series on raising pet rabbits and keeping them healthy, learn some specific, important steps to creating an ideal environment for your pet. Our expert will guide you in how to set up a rabbit cage, what toys to buy, how to clip a rabbit’s nails, and what to feed your rabbit. Two of the video clips even explain what signs to look for to tell if your rabbit is healthy or sick. Keep your pet rabbit alive and healthy for years to come.
