Handling a Pet Guinea Pig

"Hi, my name is Sarah, and I am here at Extra Care Animal Hospital in Davey, Florida, today, and on behalf of Expert Village.com, I am going to educate you a little bit about owning a guinea pig. Generally guinea pigs are very docile animals. They are not aggressive. They generally like being handled. Very rarely do they bite or scratch unless they feel threatened or frightened. Now usually if they are upset about something they will voice their protest by letting out a high pitched squeal. Sometimes they will let out a high pitched squeal when they are excited about being fed or if they think they are going to get a treat or something like that. A lot of guinea pigs eventually get trained to give out the squeal when they hear the refrigerator open because they know they are getting a treat. It is very important that any time the guinea pig is being handled by a young child that a parent or adult be around to supervise. Any time your guinea pig is having any interaction with other pets in the household, it is very important that supervision is present. Other cats and dogs even if they don’t mean to injure a guinea pig can do so when playing.
