"Hi! My name is Sarah, I’m at Petland in Pembroke Pines, Florida tonight and on behalf of expertvillage.com, I’m going to speak with you a little bit about caring for mice. As far as disease goes in these guys, the most common thing that we see mice for are respiratory infections, cancer, and lice and mites and other fur problems. As far as the first problem that I mentioned goes, respiratory infections can have a number of different causes. These can be bacterial, fungal, viral, or a number or other issues. If your mouse has a respiratory infection, you may see a discharge from the nose or eyes. You may see a decreased appetite or water consumption. You may see that your mouse is lethargic. If you feel that your mouse is having any problems with this, you should get him or her to an exotic mammal vet as soon as possible. Another common illness that we see in mice can be fur mites or lice. This will typically result in the mouse scratching a lot. This is because the mites or lice are very irritating and make the mouse very itchy. You’ll also see hair loss or a crusty flaking coat. If you feel your mouse has this problem, once again you should get him or her to a qualified exotic mammal veterinarian. Other problems include cancer. If you see any unusual lumps or bumps on your mouse, there is a potential that this could be cancer. Basically, if you mouse has anything unusual going on that you think is out of the ordinary or your mouse just isn’t acting right, you should get him or her to a qualified exotic mammal veterinarian as soon as possible have it checked out."
