"Hi! My name is Sarah, I’m at Petland in Pembroke Pines, Florida tonight and on behalf of expertvillage.com, I’m going to speak with you a little bit about caring for mice. Whenever you first purchase your mouse or adopt your mouse, it is very important that you get it to a qualified exotic mammal veterinarian for a first physical exam. They will also usually recommend doing a fecal check to check for intestinal parasites. Your vet will give the mouse a thorough physical exam, check the eyes, the ears, the fur, the skin, the feet, and make sure everything looks healthy. As far as the fecal check goes, if your exotic veterinarian finds any intestinal parasites, he or she will script out an appropriate deworming medication for you mouse. After you initial visit, you should have your mouse examined twice a year. This is because mice tend to have shorter life spans than other small mammals, therefore a lot can happen with these guys in six months. If you need to find a qualified exotic veterinarian in your area, you can go to the association of exotic mammal veterinarian’s website at aemv.org."
