"Hi! This is Sally Martin with expertvillage.com and this is Magic in this clip we’re going to teach you how to back a horse. It’s similar to stopping, in that the horse drops his head because there’s pressure on the bit, you pull straight back evenly on both sides and the horse will back up. You can use this method whether you’re on the horse’s back or just on the ground, equal pressure on both sides of the mouth, both reins, back…when your horse has responded give him its slack back in the reins, that’s how you back a horse."
