"This is Randall Powell with Expert Village, and in this clip, we're going to talk about the health and care of your horse. When caring for your horse, to keep them healthy you need to warm them at least once a month. You can get the warmer at any local feed store or vet supply store. Warm them with a pace; once monthly. You need to take them to the vet once a year to get all their shots. They have the Equine flu, the Cogan's, the West Nile Virus from the mosquitoes. There's several virus and diseases they can catch if you don't keep them properly vaccinated. Another way that's very important to keep your horse healthy is to keep his feet trimmed or keep him shod at all times. Keep shoes on him, have fairy route at your place at least once every 2 months to keep his feet right. Horses travel better like this. They'll stay truer on their feet, won't come up lame or crippled anytime on you. That's probably the most important thing when caring for your horse is just keep it's feet right. Also, if you're experiencing any kind of problem with your horse not moving around, you can have him beamed, which is a veterinary procedure that you need to take him to the vet to have them do. It's some problems they have with their private areas every now and then that the vets have to worry about. Another problem to look for is if the horse is eating and dropping his food a lot, he can't keep his pellets or his grain in his mouth, they need to go have their teeth floated. That's basically just having them filed down, but there's also vets and professionals that do that type of thing. If you're seeing your horse drop a lot of his food and he's losing weight, you need to have his teeth floated and keep him healthy. Like I said, the main thing is also high nutritious food and adequate water supply at all time. Clean water and that will keep him healthy. I hope some of these tips will help you keep your new horse healthy."
