How to Groom a Horse's Head

"This is Sharon Booth with Goldenrod Performance Horses. On behalf of Expert Village, we are going to learn how to groom a horse today. First you are going to go to the head of the horse and you are going to use a soft sponge. You are going to take that sponge and dip it in just regular water and start grooming over the forelock, around the ears. You don't hae to worry about the ears. You can check those ears but you don't have to put water in the ears or ever clean them. Then you are going to go down the eyes. Be sure to be very careful at the eyes and look at your horse's eyes and make sure that there is not a lot of gunk and mucus material in there because that can show signs of either worming problem or some kind of cold coming up. So you want to make sure that those eyes are clean. Then you go down the fore of the face and then into the nostrils. You want to clean out those nostrils because like us there is a lot of dust and dirt that can get in there so you want to wipe those clean. Then under the chin to make sure as you are looking that there are no abscesses under the jaw and then around the mouth. As you are checking the mouth, make sure there is no food and stuff that is on the edge of the mouth because that could mean some problems with the teeth that you might have to consult with the veterinarian. So once the face is clean, you take a nice soft dry towel and rub on the face. They do love a good face loving. They do enjoy that and then you are finished with your face."
