"The next thing we're going to talk about is the calcium sand. The calcium sand is fine. You can use this for a sand boa as we're not feeding the snake inside the enclosure so you don't have to worry about impaction so much. However my one complaint about this stuff is that it's not the most natural looking sand in the world. It does look fake and plus it's expensive. A five pound bag of this is going to run you anywhere from between $10 and $12 bucks. You're going to go broke using the calcium sand. Now if you have that kind of money to spend and you like the calcium sand I say go for it however I would suggest you stay away from the colored stuff. There are greens and blacks and that. I find they tend to stain the animal over time so be aware of that. Now the last option that I don't have here in front of me but I personally use with my sand boa is just your every day regular old play sand. You can buy it in a 40 pound bag down at any hardware store. Personally I find this to be the best sub straight out of any of them. It's inexpensive. It's easy to use. It?s natural looking. Plus one of the problems I have with some of these other bedding like say the Carefresh bedding, the coconut bedding, they don't tend to facilitate shedding very well with the sand boas. I find that when I used these beddings in the past they don't shed as well and they tend to hold their skin for longer. With the regular old play sand the shed skin comes off much easier and much faster."
