"The next important tool we're going to talk about when we're talking about heating your reptile enclosure is, your leopard gecko enclosure to be specific, is your thermometer. You have to have a thermometer in your aquarium, preferably two. One on the daylight side, close to the light bulb, and one on the night side, down towards the bottom of the aquarium. What this is going to do is, it's going to give you a heat gradient. It's going to tell you the highest temperature and the lowest temperature of your aquarium. Your temperatures need to be around 100 degrees for the high area, and down to about 85 for your other area, your cold area. There's a couple different types of thermometers you can look at. There's your garden variety stick-on back thermometer, dial thermometer. It's simply going to be a little dial that goes back and forth. It's got a sticky back, you pull it off and slap it on your aquarium. Inside the aquarium, not on the outside. OK? They're very easy to read. They work very well. This is another kind of variant of that. It's a little bit larger, a little bit more interesting-looking, I suppose. And then of course, there's your digital thermometers which I'm particularly fond of. These generally, the reader goes on the outside of the aquarium, and there's a probe, so that it will go on the outside of your aquarium. And there's a long wire probe you can see, right here in the back, and that runs into your aquarium, and will gauge the temperature for you. And, that will read out, right here. Generally, the cool thing about these is, they tend to keep a memory of your highest and lowest temperature. So, if you're not around, you can check your thermometer and see if it's still staying in the right requirements. If you're seeing a strange low temperature, you need to start looking at your heating throughout maybe the day, and possibly the night, which is where you're going to get your drops."
