"The next thing we're going to talk a little bit about is the proper substrate for your crested gecko. You can call it bedding, lots of reptile people like to call it substrate, sounds a little bit more fancy. There's a couple different options you have. To start off with, you can do a fir and peat moss mix, basically what this is, is it's kind of soil like texture, it's different types of peat moss and fir and sphagnum, all mixed together. It helps hold humidity extremely well. It's very good bedding for a crested gecko. You always want to, for crested geckos, since you're looking for that high humidity, you're looking for absorbent bedding's, or natural, that will let that humidity off. You're also looking for a deep substrate. You probably want your substrate to be probably a good three to four inches deep, that's going to help hold the humidity a lot better enclosure, than a short substrate, which will dry out relatively fast. Other options, as far as substrate goes, is your co-co husks. Basically this is a shredded coconut husk, it's a fibrous like material, very close to being dirt but a little stringy. Also, same idea, you want to keep it deep, probably three to five inches. The deeper, the better and you're going to want to keep that nice and moist, at all times. It's going to help raise the overall humidity in the aquarium and definitely help keep your crested gecko very happy. Also, a good thing to mix in with these, either of these bedding's, is any good moss. Of course you want to make sure you're buying the moss from some sort of store. Don't go out into the wild and pick it because you're going to bring in any sorts of parasites or extra bugs and things that you don't necessarily need."
