"The next thing that we're going to talk about today is your heating. Reptiles are what are called ectotherms. They're not cold-blooded, they're ectotherms vs. endotherms. What that means, is that they need outside sources in order to heat the blood in their body, and help them digest food, as opposed to humans which are endotherms. We generate our own heat. Now in order to do that properly in a tank, most people are going to use heat lights. There is a couple of different things you can do. There is your garden variety heat lamp, just like you can buy at a Lowe's or anything else, or you can buy it from your local pet store, which is just as good. However, make sure that it has a ceramic top on it. It has to have a ceramic end. Plastic will not do. You are generating high amounts of heat for a bearded dragon. Plastic will melt on you. Also make sure that it is rated for the right wattage of lamp that you're going to be using. Preferably, you want buy heat lamps that are going to be rated for at least 150 watts, if not 250. You probably won't be running 250 watt lights, but 150 is probably almost a sure bet in most homes. So, you have your garden variety heat lamp. That is the lamp, not the bulb. We'll get the bulbs in just a second. The other type of light fixture you can look at is what is called a combo light fixture. Generally what these have, is they have spots for your incandescent bulbs. Those are your heat bulbs, and then it's going to have a spot for your fluorescent bulb. These generally are going to cost you quite a bit more than your regular heat fixtures, but they do offer a little bit of a compatibility and make your tank look a little bit nicer."
