on 8/21/2008 A cage with multiple levels is not appropriate for hamsters; as they are ground animals, who prefer to borrow and scavenger for food, having a cage with things to climb on is not exactly what they need. They need long cages with more floorspace. Hamsters can also fall off those raised levels and possibly injure themselves.
You showed hamster wheels but neglected to mention what size wheel is appropriate. Syrian hamsters ("golden", "teddy bear", etc) need at least a 7 inch wheel; dwarf hamsters need at least 5.5 inch wheel.
Hamsters should not be too active during the day, as they are nocturnal animals. If the hamsters seem bored or agitated, it's because you are housing them in a tank or cage that is too small.

"On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Laura. There are many ways to accessorize your hamster's tank. There are many toys available. There is a little car they can climb in and a little bed for your hamster. Housing comes in different shapes and sizes. All of these are completely acceptable for a hamster. As far as toys go, there are wheels and various shapes and sizes and of course there is everybody's favorite, the runabout ball. This brings your hamster out of the tank and involves it in the family. There are also many different types of housing available for your hamster. They range from the beginner's kit of my first home to the extra large condo. This habitat is great for a hamster. Its got several different floors, its got a wheel and its got the trails to keep the hamster occupied. The biggest problem though most people face with a hamster is not having enough things for the hamster to do. Hamsters get bored easily. They need to play. You need to have a house that is going to keep them occupied during the day."
