"On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Laura. Hamsters are one of the most popular pets for young children because the are easily cared for. They don't grow to a large size and they are very friendly with kids Before you bring your hamster home, first thing you need to do is buy a tank with the right type of bedding. Make sure you buy the right bedding for your hamsters. Try to avoid anything that has Pine or Cedar shavings in it as dust could cause upper respiratory infection. This is the best bedding that you can use. It doesn't have a lot of dust. It helps to control the odors very well and the hamsters can use it to furrow. They like to dig so make sure that you get your bedding as easily handled by them. Once you get your bedding in and get your hamsters in, your tanks need to be cleaned usually about once a week. If you've got more than one hamster, you might want to do it a little more often than that. But if you notice, you can tell they get their food everywhere. So what you need to do is make sure that their bedding is fairly clean through the week. If they get too much in there and they mix in with their feces, they have a tendency to end up with stomach problems because they are eating the feces along with their food."
