"On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Laura and I am here to tell you about dwarf hamsters. There are several types of diseases or infections that can cause serious problems to your hamsters health. The most common would be an upper respiratory infection which can lead to pneumonia. Upper respiratory infection is usually caused by improper bedding. This causes dust particles to get into the hamsters nose and mouth which causes the lungs to have to work a lot harder. When this happens, you need to take your hamster to a vet. Another problem that you need to be aware of your hamster is wet tail. Wet tail is caused by diarrhea and there is no known reason why it causes that. If you find symptoms of wet tail on your hamster, you need to take him to a vet for veterinary care. Usually antibiotics are prescribed and that is the only way that you can get rid of it."
