"On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Laura and I am here to tell you about dwarf hamsters. These are Russian dwarf hamsters. They are originally from Southwestern China and Asia. If you notice, they have the gray with a black stripe and white under belly. That is distinctively of the Russian hamsters. There are also 3 other species of dwarfs hamsters that are for sale in the United States as pets. We have a winter white hamster, there is the robo hamster and the Chinese striped hamster. The most common hamster sold in the United States as far as the dwarf hamster goes, is the Russian hamster. Robo dwarfs are very much like the Russian dwarfs. They are smaller, they are brown with a black stripe down their back and they have white marks above their eyebrows. They also have white whiskers that make them look like they have not shaved for a while. Chinese striped hamsters are obviously stripes. They average 4 to 5 inches long and they are tan with a black stripe. The last would be the winter white hamster. Winter white hamsters are about 4 to 5 inches long. They are gray with a white belly and in the winter time they molt and the gray on the top turns completely white. That is where they get their names."
