"Hi, I'm Kelli on behalf of Expert Village. I'm going to show you some techniques that I use to properly care for my horses feet. One thing that is really important that you do on a daily basis, especially before you ride, is to clean out your horses feet. So, we are going to be using our hoof pick here. It has a little pick on one end to get dirt and debris out of the foot and a brush to brush out any remaining dirt and debris. So, we are going to go over and we are going to pick up her foot. So, we are going to run our hand down the back of her leg and give her a little squeeze at the fetlock. We are going to have her pick up her foot and we are going to take our pick. We are just going to pick out any dirt and debris that might be around the frog, which is the little triangular section here in the center of the foot. Scrape out anything that might be around the shoe and we will brush out any excess dirt or debris. You want to also make sure that you are removing, if there is any rocks or anything trapped in the foot, because that can really lead to some bruising that can make your horse go up lame, which will make it really difficult for you to ride. So, the first step in really good horse health is making sure that you are taking really great care of their feet and that just starts with keeping them really nice and clean."
