How to Lead a Horse Before Hoof Care

"Hi! I'm Kelli here on behalf of Expert Village. I am going to show you some techniques that I use to properly care for my horse's feet. Now that we've put the halter on our horse, we are going to lead our horse to the fence where we are going to tie her for her grooming. So when you are leading your horse, you want to make sure that you are holding your lead rope in a loop and that you are holding it in between your fingers. You don't want to ever let your lead rope get too long or you don't want to ever wrap it around your hand because that can be really dangerous or it could get tangled in a lead rope or if it would happen to startle, to pull and your hand could end up getting stuck in there and you could end up being drug. So you just want to loop your lead rope, hold it in between your fingers. You are going to always lead on the left side. You never want to lead on the right. You are going to take your right hand and you are going to want to hold her just right here under the chin. We are going to look where we want to go, give her a little cluck so that she will follow us and we are going to lead her right to the fence. Whoa and that is how you will want to properly lead your horse to where you want to go."
