Decorating Aquariums with Live Freshwater Plants

What I am standing next to here are live freshwater plants. Now they do two things, A, they provide a beautiful, living, esthetic decoration for the tank and they also provide a type of filtration, natural filtration for the fish. They absorb fish waste as food, like fertilizer and when the lights are on through photosynthesis they produce oxygen for the fish and absorb the carbon dioxide that the fish respirate. Now plants can be quite tricky and there is more to it than just sticking them in the ground and hoping they grow. They depend on lighting, they depend on CO2 levels, proper CO2 levels, and proper substrate, gravel and such for the root systems, there is lot involved in a freshwater plant tank.
