"O.k., let's talk about some guidelines for improving self disclosure. One of the first things that you have to take a look at, and for some of you this is going to blow your mind, because for some people this is very, very hard to do. What you have to do before you self disclose anything is look at your motivation. What is your motivation for telling someone something? Is your motivation true and good, and pure? Because what many people do, is they self disclose information, their motivation is to hurt people, you know "I cheated on you", see I told you something, I self disclosed something, but I did it because I wanted to hurt you, or I wanted to punish you, and we see this a lot in relationships, we see this a lot with parents, and the way they talk to children. So, self disclosure is good, but forms of self disclosure can be bad if your motivation is not right. So, that's the first thing you want to take a look at."
