" I am making this opening larger and larger as I turn it. I start at the bottom and I move my thumb up slowly from bottom in a spiral motion all the way to the top. Since this is a hand technique, it is not going to look like it was made on a potter’s wheel; it won’t have a perfectly concentric circle. The opening will be a little bit uneven, but with practice you can make quite nice pots with this very simple uncomplicated method. You can sit in front of the TV set and make pots like this; see how the pot is getting larger. Now, I can flatten this gently so that it will sit without rocking. I can either open it up more or I can start to close it up by pushing clay up over my finger on the inside."
