I'm Sylva Kelegian with Expert Village here with Simone Luncher from Pet Mania in Burbank and together we've rescued thousands of animals. She's done more than I have, she's been doing it a lot longer. So if you find a dog on the street, if it's in good condition, please bring him to your shelter, put a hold on that dog if you care about that dog and want to find that dog a home, pull that dog out of the shelter if the owner doesn't come to claim the dog. If the owner claims the dog, hopefully it's a good home and he'll go back home. If you find a stray on the street, he's in really bad condition, he's mangy and matted, he's emaciated and he has a collar so tight he can barely breathe, you know full well that is not a good home. You don't want to bring that dog to the shelter because you don't want that dog to go back to a horrible home. So what I would suggest doing is, find that dog a wonderful loving person that can follow that dog until that dog can get a good home. You take that dog to the vet, you make sure he's spayed or neutered, number one, if he's not spayed or neutered, get him spayed or neutered. Get him microchipped so that he'll always have a chip implanted so that he can never get lost again. Make sure that dog has an id tag on, take the dog to the vet for a checkup, make sure he's okay. You want to find that dog a home, there's a internet called Pet Finder, on the internet, it's called Petfinder.com. If you're looking to adopt a dog, if you're looking to find a dog a home, go to petfinder.com. List your dog on there, people call you, screen them, make sure it's a good home for that dog. Make sure that dog is going to be part of the family and not a backyard dog. Go to the home, check it out, do a home check, make sure it's a good family, that the yard is safe, that everything checks out okay. And most importantly, charge a fee for the dog because a lot of people will get free dogs and as we talked about in another clip, they'll take them and sell them to research which is obviously not the greatest thing for the animal. When you adopt a dog, make sure you are adopting a dog that fits into your lifestyle. Don't adopt a dog and make it fit into your lifestyle. Adopt a dog that's going to fit into your lifestyle so that you don't have to return the dog. God bless you.
