Tips for Keeping Your Rescued Stray Cat Safe

"I'm Sylva Kelegian here with Expert Village with Simone Luncher from Pet Mania in Burbank and she's going to talk a little bit about rescuing cats. Well we have rescued also a lot of cats among other animals as well and I always tell people if you do want to have a cat, make sure it really fits your life style. A lot of people are allergic or a lot of people just don't like the hair but the most important thing is to also please do not declaw your cat. We are completely against declawing, there are actually several cities within the city of Los Angeles which also it is illegal to have your cat declawed. What happens is they don't just take the nail out, they cut all the way to the bone. It's extremely cruel and painful, some cats actually never recover and need to be euthanized after that. So if you do have, let's say you do have expensive furniture, leather, or anything you worry about, simple, just don't get a cat. And if you declaw your cat and the cat gets out, he has nothing to defend himself with, that's how the cats defend themselves. If he gets attacked by another cat, he can't fight back and also, a lot of people have their cats indoor and a lot of people have them outdoor. There are two different theories on that, one is cats live a lot longer if they're indoor but they have more active social life and just life in general if they get to go outside and do their thing too. So if you are going to have your cats outdoors, just make sure you monitor and keep them safe and do not declaw your cats, please. And also make sure if you do let your cat outside, make sure its safe. If you live on a busy street or if you live in the mountains near coyotes, just don't do it, it's not worth it. If you do have a safe neighborhood, for a couple of hours being outside doesn't hurt but just make sure its safe"
