"Hi my name is Tim Ambrosuis. I am a professional guitar technician for ExpertVillage.com and I am explaining to you the difference between pre-amp tubes and power tubes. Now what a lot of people think is that the pre-amp tubes give you most of your sound which is not really that correct. Your pre-amp tubes are generally always going to be the same, they are going to be a set of 12AX7s and they are going to control the sound when it first comes into the amplifier, but the biggest part of your sound is going to come from your power tubes. And those are going to be usually different like a Neil 34, a 6L6 or even like an EL84, those are going to be where most of your guitar sound comes from and where the biggest difference in all of your sounds are going to be. Different amplifiers use different types and they are all set up for one and they are not really interchangeable. Some amplifiers you can interchange them and not have any problems and on this one they are just going to be set up for one certain type of tube and that is what you use all of the time unless you have a guitar technician rewire your amp end for both tubes.
