Using the Equalizer on Guitar Amps

"Hi my name is Tim Ambrosuis and I am a professional guitar technician for Expert Village.com. I am going to explain to you how to EQ your amplifier. First what you are going to have on your amp, is a level that is just going to be your volume control and then you are going to have a treble setting, a middle and a base. What the treble setting stands for is how many highs that are going to be in your sound, so you generally are going to set it between the 6 and 8 position, don’t really want to spike it too much. You really don’t want to keep it down. Just generally in that area of whatever you like sounding. If you turn it down too low it is going to sound muffled. If you turn it up too high, it is going to sound too bright right in the middle at 7 or 8. For the middle control, generally people turn it down to about 3 and 5, just really what you like. It controls the middle frequencies that are coming out of the amplifier and on the base control it is going to control the little frequencies. You want to keep it just the same setting around where the treble is between 6 and 8, not too low where you don’t have any base in the sound but not too high where it is all base. So generally right about there you get a nice clean sound. "
