"Hi my name is Tim Ambrosuis and I am a professional guitar technician for Expert Village.com. I am going to explain to you the differences between a bass amp and a guitar amp. Generally at first what a bass amp is for a wider range of frequencies than an electric guitar amp. With your bass amps you are going to have your regular controls, volume, mids, highs, lows and sometimes you will have a gain. Maybe a contour control but the gain on the bass amp is not going to be the same as a gain on a guitar amp. Gain on a guitar amp is going to cause a lot more distortion, a lot thicker distortion where as a gain on a bass amp is just going to cause some break up on the speakers. Another good use for a bass amp is an acoustic amp because of the wider range of frequencies can double as in acoustic amp and they do make regular acoustic amplifiers specifically for acoustics but you can use a bass amp to double as a acoustic amp. Other than that with bass amps you are going to have a lot more wattage generally with them than with a guitar amp. Times are going to come 1500 watts where bass amps are going to be upwards of 450,000 watts. And that is pretty much about it. "
