Series Summary

Guitar amps provide musicians with a wide variety of options for sound effects, distortion and level control. Though the first amplifiers were made specifically for electric guitars, they can be used with a wide array of instruments. In the beginning, amplifiers were used primarily to boost levels, and over time, the ingenuity of musicians everywhere has helped develop the use of amplifiers and the artistry of effects into an area of expertise all its own.

In this video series, you will learn the basics of amp distortion, differences between kinds of amplifiers, various types of effects that can be produced as well as the essentials of amp maintenance.

"Hi, I’m Tim Ambrosuis and I am a professional guitar technician for Expert Village.com. I am going to explain to you how to change channels on your electric guitar amplifier. On this what you have are two channels. You have your clean channel and you have your distortion channel. In order to change over from your clean channel where we are at right now to your distortion channel, there are two ways. First way there is a button on the front of the amplifier. You just press that and you go over your distortion channel. The other way is to plug in a foot switch on the back of the amplifier and simple as that you just press that and there you go, it is as simple as that. "
