on 4/15/2009 for 2008 rate for trans worker is 80% on form 2106 less company reimbursement if any ( meals only) However the rate of $52.00 needs to be checked against IRS per diem allowence. Some cities for a regular run qualify for higher amount. The 52 is a standard rate only. And the 52 rate can be pro-rated into 6 hour fractions of the next day ( divide day into 6 hour quarters. Time applies from when you leave town--until you get back but rest at hotel usually required. You do not have to document money spent,what you document to get rate is the time you were away

In the time of this taping a trucker or railroad man can deduct $52.00 per day for every 24 hour period that he's away from home. At further a transportation worker can take 75% of that amount instead of half in which it's in case of regular employees, there are other areas that will be covering later particularly your automobile ex pence when your away from home.
