" Hello! I’m Stephany from Stephany’s Simply Sewing on behalf of expertvillage.com. Now that we’ve got our garment pretty well finished, we’re ready to put our buttonholes in, and we’ve already marked them. It’s very important to go ahead and do a test of your buttonhole. This enables you to make any adjustments you need to make for you machine or the length of your buttonhole. As you can tell, I’ve already layered the fabric just as I would. This is exactly what I’ll be stitching on my garment. I’ve made a few test buttonholes, and I test the size by putting my button through the button hole that I’ve made. And since it does fit quite nicely, I do know that I have the correct size of buttonhole. I’m now ready to make the buttonhole in my garment. I’ve marked my buttonhole on my cuff right here. I already know, according to the machine or the instructions for my sewing machine, how to operate this buttonhole. You’ll want to check the instructions for your machine as well. What I’m going to do is go ahead and line up the line that I drew from my buttonhole, and then I’m going to go ahead and plunge the needle into my fabric to be sure I’m in the right place. I’m going to put my presser foot down and then I’m going to let my machine do it’s magic. I do go around my buttonholes, simply because it makes a nicer finish, a nice raised buttonhole. I do like the buttonholes that this machine makes, even though it’s a rather old machine. Once I’ve finished my buttonhole, I simply raise my presser foot and clip my threads. I’m going to want to trim my threads as close to it as I can, and that’s how you make your buttonhole. "
