" Hello! I’m Stephany of Stephany’s Simply Sewing on behalf of expertvillage.com. I’d like to show you how we stitch our sleeve into our garment. I have already pin basted my sleeve, which is this portion here, to the bodice, which is here. One of the things I like to do is I like to start my sewing at this notch. In this case, because of the double notch, I know that’s the back. It’s doesn’t matter if you start at the front of the back, but start at one of those notches. I’m going to sew all the way around and then quit at the other notch. The reason being that sewing that way I end up with a double stitched seam along my underarm, which is where the most stress is. Again, I’m going to just simply sew 5/8 of an inch. When you come to the under arm and there’s such an extreme curve, you’re going to want to make sure that you keep your fabric as that curve and rotate it while you’re looking at your 5/8 inch mark. A lot of times people want to simply stretch their seam like this, and it doesn’t make a very accurate curve. So by doing your rotation of your seam this way, you end up with a very nice stitched area. That it how you work the underarm curve. Next, we’ll go ahead and sew the cap of our sleeve. "
