on 8/2/2008 Thanks for your videos on making a man's shirt. They promise to be revealing. However, I haven't been able to watch them because they cease at several points. I'm an amateur shirtmaker. Your videos no doubt assist me. Pls rectify the problems. Alternatively, pls send me sketches for making shirts, etc. Thks

" Hi! I’m Stephany from Stephany’s Simply Sewing on behalf of expertvillage.com. I’d like to show you now how we have attached—or will be attaching our collar and collar stand unit to the body of our shirt. What I have done is gone ahead and matched my notches and pinned all along my seam. One thing to remember when you’re doing your collar and your collar stand is, while your neckline is very curved, your collar stand is pretty straight, so you will end up having to ease or finesse the fabric of your shirt into your collar stand. I’d like to show you a little bit of a technique to have that happen. You’re going to start sewing and again, you’re going to sew 5/8 of an inch. I’m going to start on my seam line where my collar stand sides join. Now, when you’re sewing you’re going to want to try and measure and line up this line, but you need to think about your needle up here. That’s really the line you want to match, is the one up here. As you’re sewing, you’re going to want to sneak your hand under the collar stand and kind of feel with your fingers for any of the ripples or bubbles. You can kind of wiggle those out as you sew; because although the collar is straight or fairly straight, and the body of the shirt is curved, the line that you’re sewing on will wind up being fairly straight. As you move, and you can tell how I’ve kind of moved this back and forth, you are in essence straightening out that little area so that you don’t have those little ripples under there. You’re going to want to sew to the center of your collar, stop sewing, and then sew from the other edge. This becomes a challenge because of course, you’ve got to turn your fabric over and you are sewing with the pins on the bottom side. Once again, you want to check to be sure you haven’t caught any unnecessary fabric, and you can see how I can move this to get through those little wrinkles. That is how you attach your collar stand to your shirt. "
