" Hello! I’m Stephany from Stephany’s Simply Sewing. On behalf of expertvillage.com, I’d like to show you how we top stitch a collar. I have already turned and pressed this collar and pinned it so things stay stable. I’m going to run a line of stitching right along here. I’m going to put this in my machine, and I’m going to use this edge of my foot along this edge of collar in order to measure or guide my stitching. Topstitching, if you do it in a color that blends in and you don’t do it quite as straight as you’d like, is a good idea. If you are not comfortable with your topstitching, using that kind of a color that blends is probably the best. If you are very comfortable with topstitching, you can use a contrasting color. Remember though, when you’re topstitching with a contrasting color, every mistake and wiggle and bobble that you might make will be very evident in you topstitching. Topstitching is a nice detail that helps hold your collar in place and it also gives your homemade garment, or your handmade garment as I prefer to call them, that nice ready-to-wear finished look. When you reach your corner, you simply need to leave your needle in your garment, lift your presser foot, and rotate. I can tell that I have not stitched far enough, so I’d like to take one more stitch. That is how to topstitch your collar. "

on 8/2/2008 This was a completely useless video. It basically showed NOTHING but a sewing machine moving along some fabric. I wanted to see how the thread was handled at the start and finish of the topstitching, but that wasn't even mentioned. As you can see from the -- below, there is absolutely no instruction whatsoever about how topstitching is done. Nothing. Nothing about thread choices, needle choices, starting and finishing, nothing at all about anything. If you enjoy watching some fabric move through the machine, like maybe you like watching paint dry, this is the video for you. Great job Steph.
