" Hello! I’m Stephany from Stephany’s Simply Sewing. On behalf of expertvillage.com, I’d like to demonstrate for you how to assemble your collar. I have my interfacing and my 2 collar pieces. My collar pieces are placed right sides together and then my interfacing on the back. I then pin based around and on my points, I’m going to put my pins into the point like that and then this way. I’m now going to use my sewing machine and I’m going to sew from my neck edge at 5/8 of an inch. When I reach my collar point, I’m going to go and slow down. I can check that I’ve gone far enough, simply by leaving my needle in the fabric and rotating. I can see I need to take a couple more stitches. So I am going to take another couple stitches and check again. That looks good. One of the things that makes it easier when pivoting around a corner is to take 1 stitch diagonally so you have kind of a up across and down instead of appoint. It makes your collars turn much easier. I then go ahead and stitch to the center of my collar. Now you might wonder, why am I only going to the center and not going all the way around. The reason for that is because if you go all the way around on 1 pass, your collar will not lay evenly because your fabric stretches. So I’m going to turn this over and repeat the process starting from the other side. My pins are on the bottom and that is alright. You just want to be sure that when they’re going they don’t hang up on the edge of your machine. I’m going to repeat the process; gauging, pivoting, and finishing my collar. In our next segment, I’ll show you how to turn your collar. For now, that is how you assemble your collar. "
