" Hi! I’m Stephany from Stephany’s Simply Sewing. On behalf of expertvillage.com, I’d like to show you how we attach the front of our shirt to the back at the shoulder seams. The first thing you’re going to do is find the right side of your fabric. This is my right side because this is where I have put the pocket, and this is going to be the right side of my back. I need to pin these together matching my notches. Remember, these are the little triangles that we cut out when we laid our pattern and did our cutting. Shoulders, generally on a bias it will stretch, so you do want to handle it carefully. It usually takes about 3-4 pins depending on the size of the garment. This being a men’s shirt, I will not doubt pin 4 times. I am not going to sew this seam 5/8 of an inch. If you recall correctly, on my machine I’ve marked the 5/8 inch line. I started the edge and hang on to my thread tails. Making sure there are no wrinkles on the bottom, I go ahead and allow the machine to feed the fabric while guiding it. In order to keep the 5/8 inch line, I’m looking right here at my needle and measuring right here to be sure that those are the same. Sewing a consistent seam in your garments ensures that your garments will go together accurately and fit well. Once again, when you’re finished with your sewing, remove your pins if you haven’t already and your friend is the iron. We’re going to put a ready to wear finish on this, so what I’m going to do is go and press and be right back with you. That is how you sew the shoulder seams of a garment. "
