" Hello! I’m Stephany from Stephany’s Simply Sewing on behalf of expertvillage.com. I’d like to show you how to put on a patch pocket on a men’s shirt. I have already cut out my pattern for my pocket and I have marked my pattern placement or my pocket placement on my garment body. The first thing I’m going to do is carefully turn over, and this is the wrong side of the fabric I’ve chosen, and pin just a little bit. Normally, you would use your iron to kind of press this, but since I’ve been sewing for so long sometimes I don’t press like I should, especially on things like this. The next thing I’m going to do is simply sew that little press part or that little fold down. I want to remove my pins as I sew because that enables me to avoid breaking needles. There’s no need to back stitch or fix your stitches because these will be caught on your top stitching. The next step I’m going to do is I’m going to fold it this way along the fold line, as indicated on my pattern piece, and stitch along this. Once again, this will be enclosed and there’s no need to secure the stitches. You will however, want to secure your stitches when you top stitch your pocket down. Next, I’m going to turn my pocket like this and press along the edge. The next step for preparing your pocket to place on your garment will be to stitch it and center it on your garment front and top stitch it, and that’s how you prepare your patch pocket to place on your garment.
