" Hello! I’m Stephany from Stephany’s Simply Sewing on behalf of expertvillage.com. I’d like to show you a little bit about cutting your interfacing for your garment. Your pattern back will tell you how much interfacing you will need. Because I do a lot sewing, I generally buy it by the yard. Interfacing comes 2 ways; it comes woven like your fabrics are woven and it also comes nonwoven. This is nonwoven. The pieces that you will need to interface are clearly marked. Cut 2 of fabric, cut 1 of interfacing. If you have a nonwoven interfacing like I do, your grain line is not important. If you have a woven interfacing, it is important to follow your grain lines. Lying out of your fabric is the same as what you would do when you’re doing your regular fabric. Since I have some fabrics or some pattern pieces that I need to have 2 of, I will double my interfacing, which involves folding it in half. Again, because this is nonwoven, you can simply not worry about grain lines. To make the best use of my interfacing though, I do tend to match up edges that are unnotched like this. So these are my pieces that instruct me to cut 2. I have 2 cuffs, so I’m going to need to have 2 pieces of interfacing. These are…I need only 1, so when I open up my fabric I will cut those. You can for convenience, simply place a pin and a pin. The weight of your fabric along with your pattern and the stiffness of the interfacing will keep it from creeping too much. If you feel more secure placing more pins, by all means do that. That is how you pin down and cut out interfacing. "
