Understanding Sewing Pattern Length for Pieces

"Hi, I'm Terri Turco with Expert Village but I am here to tell you that if you are a true size six with what you would on the pattern measurements then all you do is you follow this line that says size six all the way down. Now, if you are a size six on top and a size eight on the bottom this type of pattern is going to give you the ability to make this fit perfectly because it's going to show you how to go from a six to an eight. Now one other thing about this that's really important is you are going to see lines right here. These lines are always 3/4 down the pattern. What these lines are for is for length. If you are a petite woman or shorter or you have a very short torso you literally take these lines and you connect them by in actuality making this pattern piece a little bit shorter. And how to keep that in place is you just take a pin and pin it. Now the most important thing of this last step is what you do to one pattern piece you've always got to do to both of them. This is really altering a pattern, you're making it shorter and you've got to make one piece as short as the other so they go together. Now when we come back we're going to talk about notches, folds and salvages and then we're going to put this pattern on the fabric ready to cut."
