" Hi! I’m Stephany from Stephany’s Simply Sewing on behalf of expertvillage.com. I’d like to tell you a few tips about picking a pattern for sewing. Some of the things you will need to consider is your sewing ability level, the person you’re making something for, the reason why you’re making it, the time you have allotted, and your sewing skills. For example, I have 2 patterns here, and both of them are kinds of suits. This one will take more time, because as you notice, it has a waistband, darts, and buttons and buttonholes, whereas this suit will take a little bit less time because we have elastic waistbands and no buttons and buttonholes. Additionally, you want to consider the types of fabrics that you can use. This particular fabric is sewn with a knit fabric, whereas this is used for a woven. You will want to consider this when doing your fabric choices and your pattern choices, because your sewing machine may not like to sew on one or the other fabric or you may not be ready to sew on a knit. Additionally, you’ll want to consider if you would like to add trims. These details, although they are very attractive, do take time.
