" Hi! I’m Stephany from Stephany’s Simply Sewing on behalf of expertvillage.com. I’d like to show you the information that is located on a pattern envelope. I have several patterns here for you to look at. Most of us look and we see the front of our pattern. Sometimes the front of the pattern can give us an idea about the types of information that are going to be on the back. For example, on the back of each one of these patterns you will find a lined drawing that shows the back of the garment you’ve selected. You will also find the fabrics that are appropriate for this pattern, the notions, which are the little extras that you will need to complete your sewing. It will give you the measurements, your body measurements, so that you can select a size appropriate for your garment. This particular pattern has the chest, waist, neck, band and sleeve length. It also tells your how much yards you will need to purchase in order to make this garment, and will tell you the garment measurements that are finished. Generally, your garment measurements when finished are larger that your body measurement to provide ease for your pattern. This information is important to you so that you are able to pick appropriate fabrics for your garment. For example, if you were to make this out of cotton, it wouldn’t be a very warm jacket. Conversely, if you were to try to make a shirt such as this out of polar fleece, it wouldn’t fit very well. So as a new sewer, you will want to double check that information and go from there. That is the information that you can find on the back of a pattern envelope, which will help you become a much more accomplished sewer. "
