Glazing the Inside of the Coil Pot

" Hi! I’m Roy Stringfellow with expertvillage.com. We have finished our under glaze and we have taken our piece and waxed the bottom. Now we are ready to apply the glaze to this particular item. We’re going to glaze this time by dipping, which is a lot quicker in a certain sense than painting different layers of glaze on it. Dipping is exactly what is says. It’s just simply taking the object, dipping it into the glaze that you want. What we are doing is dipping it into a clear glaze just to cover and allow the under glaze to show through. It’s a very simple process of simply putting your piece into the glaze, rolling it around to the point of where you want to bring it out, and there we have it. We’ll kind of wipe off the bottom, make sure that we don’t get too much of the glaze dripping down, and kind of shake it out. You probably have to pour the excess out of the inside back into the glaze pot. That will be a disaster too. So we have our glazed piece just about ready for the kiln, then we’ll go back and cover those little places where our hands have probably interfered with the glaze getting on the piece. The next step is to let this dry and then we’ll place it in the kiln for the glaze firing. That will fire about 2,000 degrees over a period of 4 hours or so. Then when it comes out hopefully, it will come out as we predicted, but the fire will take care of all of it. "
