How to Sketch a Glass Mosaic Design

"In this segment I'm going to show how you might sketch something very simple as you're beginning design rather than taking a very complicated thing to begin with which is not a great idea. So we're going to do just a simple abstract, maybe just dreamed up out of our head and put lines in here and come across maybe a circular piece, coming down with something, coming down this way, like that, and where all these different pieces are, those are going to be different colors. You might use like a red up here and a yellow in here, and so on. So let's see, you have lines intersecting with each other and going different ways. You can do it simply like this or you might want to have some theme to it. I mean for example if you wanted to have some of this house or something, put some windows in it and you could have another one next to it. So a more complicated design is going to be something that is going to have a lot of things in it. For example, I did one piece that was four feet by two feet of a horse race. I had to get all six of those horses in there. Different heights and levels and so on, it took a great deal of planning and I did use something, I have a little photo thing here. This is a photo projector and I can put pictures inside here and shine them on to the wood which a lot of artists use and then it didn't take me so long to hand sketch every single horse. I had some idea, some pictures of horses that I used and just kept altering it and putting different things. After that was all done, then I started with the background and we'll show you that piece later."
